Determination of Population Development and Infestation Rates of Codling Moth [Cydia pomonella (L.) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae)] by Using Different Sampling Methods in Şanlıurfa Province

description This study was conducted in 2 apple orchards in Öğütçü and Kargılı villages in Şanlıurfa province during 2010 and 2011. In this study, we intended to determine some important criterias for the management of the codling moth [Cydia pomonella (L.) (Lep.: Tortricidae)] in Şanlıurfa, such as adult emergence time, adult population abundance, adult population peaks, adult activity duration in the nature and infestation rates. Population development of C. pomonella was monitored by sex pheromone traps. Three different methods; ‘Tree-Based’, ‘Fruit-Based’ and ‘Crate-Based’, were used to determine the codling moth infestation rates. Results of this study showed that adult flight began in last week of April and in beginning of May. Adult populations peaked 4 times in May, June, July and September throughout the season in both years. Adults were not caught in pheromone traps after second-half of September in both years. Codling moth adults were active in the nature at least 5 months from beginning of May to end of September. Fruit infestation rate ranged from 4% to 83% based on the applied sampling methods in both years.
