A new system for the documentation of spectral absorption data is described. It is based on our principle of ‘Codeless Scanning’ which obviâtes the need for coding, is extremely flexible as regards the form in which questions may be put through the card index, and delivers a printed, uncoded list of answers. Without additional work the contents of the various files can be printed periodically in book form, either in alphabetical Order, or as an index of molecular formulae arranged in the same way as in Chemical Abstracts.
