Description
Summary:Objective To investigate the nutritional status and the related factors in peritoneal dialysis patients with malnutrition-inflammation score(MIS).Methods The patients treated with peritoneal dialysis(PD) for at least 3 months in the Peritoneal Dialysis Center of the Second Hospital of Anhui Medical University were recruited in this study.MIS was assessed by an experienced physician.Observations also included anthropometric index, grip strength, biochemical indicators(such as hemoglobin, serum albumin, prealbumin, transferrin, total iron binding capacity, sodium, high sensitivity C reactive protein, beta 2 microprotein) and the correlation between MIS and these parameters. Results A total of 91 patients(43 men and 48 women;average age of 49.25 years) treated with PD were all malnutritional based on the criteria of MIS,inchulding 43 mild malnutrition cases,46 moderate cases, and 2 severe cases. As compared with mild malnutrition patients, body mass index(BMI),arm muscle circumference and grip strength were decreased obviously in moderate and severe malnutrition patients(P<0.05),and nutrition related biochemical indicators including albumin and prealbumin also decreased significantly(P<0.05);total iron binding capacity and transferrin saturation were also decreased significantly(P<0.05);and microinflammatory biomarker high-sensitivity C-reactive protein in moderate and severe nutritional patients were significantly increased.MIS scores had a negative correlation to weight, arm muscle circumference, serum albumin, prealbumin, uric acid, grip strength, transferrin, total iron binding capacity, and a positive correlation to high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, parathyroid hormone. And sex, grip strength and serum albumin had a significant impact on MIS.Conclusions MIS can be used to assess the nutritional status of peritoneal dialysis patients. With the increase of MIS score, the patients also have more severe malnutrition inflammation. The elderly, low albumin levels or low grip patients had a higher MIS score, and worse nutritional status.
