| description | Businesses are showing some interests in biodiversity evaluation tools. Some companies develop, test and promote these tools as supports for decision-making. The effectiveness and practical effects of these tools still need to be demonstrated. Eighteen tools recommended to business are evaluated on the basis of three dimensions that characterize the effectiveness of knowledge-decision interfaces : credibility, relevance and legitimacy. The quantitative analysis of the scores highlights tradeoffs between these three dimensions as well as different profiles depending on the inclusion of business actors in the conception phase, the type of output (qualitative, monetary, non-monetary, combining monetary and non-monetary) and final use (diagnosis, monitoring and external communication). Thus, these tradeoffs between credibility, relevance and legitimacy should be acknowledged during the tool selection step and consistent with the final use of the results. |
