description This article delves into the relation between the Sufi practice of dhikr ("remembrance of God") and the memories of suffering that Kurdish women embody in their everyday lives in a village in northern Kurdistan. This ethnographic study will trace the way in which women represent and interpret their suffering and the sense of marginality produced by the experiences of mourning, by political and state violence, and by processes of assimilation and medicalization in the conflict. By creating and participating into a common space of care, women negotiate their experiences of suffering in a context of political polarization within the Turkish village guard system. The practice of "remembrance" favours an intersectional approach, allowing for the emergence of a being-in-common that stands both as an ethical-political critique of the Turkish-Kurdish conflict and a new female and collective subjectivity.
