Description
Summary:In Catalonia romanticism helped give concrete form on a cultural level to a process of differentiation from the general Hispanic identity which on a structural level had commenced in the 18th century. With the emergence of the novecientos movement, that cultural conviction would become an active element in the Catalanist political programme. This article analyses the chief milestones in this historicist transference from the cultural to the political plane, examining particularly the way in which it was manifested among the Catalanist right and left as one of the differentiating elements in their programmes.
