Description
Summary:This paper focuses the attention on the presence of foreign news in the second and third Decades of Alfonso de Palencia. By studying the passages dedicated to the history of France, England, Burgundy, Italy (Venetian possessions in the Aegean Sea included) and Hungary, my purpose intends to demonstrate that the author doesn’t consider them only as digressions or concordantia. On the contrary, these “gesta non Hispaniensia” appear as integral components of a complex historiographical project in which the causal relation emerges as the organizing principle alongside the chronology. Furthermore, they contribute to a propagandist program in favour of Ferdinand of Aragon and his allies. In fact, Alfonso de Palencia is fully aware that presenting a Christianity stalked by the Turkish threat and identifying the main perpetrators of the situation allow him to discredit and to accuse the enemies of Fernando in order to better exalt him.
