Description
Summary:As long as the Department of International Economic Relations, within the Academy of Economic Studies in Bucharest (AES), belonged to the Faculty of Commerce, until 1991, by the positions held and his personality, in the ‘70s and ‘80s, the destiny of the faculty was influenced by Professor Alexandru Puiu, Ph.D. In 1977, as Dean, he was the initiator of a new specialisation – Economy of public food services and tourism (ESAPT). He was awarded the “Petre S. Aurelian” Prize of the Academy for the contribution brought to the literature. He used to invite the best experts of the time for his courses; so in the ’80s, for the academic subject of International economic relations, the courses on international financial-currency relations were given by the distinguished Professor Costin Kiriţescu and by the young researcher from the Institute of World Economy Mugur Isărescu. Although perceived as demanding, both with himself and with the others, Professor Alexandru Puiu has imposed himself as a righteous and impartial leader. Immediately after 1989 he reinvented himself while fulfilling his vocation as “builder”. In 2011 he was awarded the “Virgil Madgearu” Diploma of AES, with a Gold Medal. His professional projects are continued by his son Ovidiu Puiu, already Ph.D. Professor and rector of “Constantin Brâncoveanu” University. (Nicolae Lupu)
