Summary: | This article focuses on the gap existing between the restoration of a painting and its presentation to the general public. The case study is a painting by Michel Serre, an artist working in Provence in the 17th-18th centuries. During the alloted time for restoration, studies and interventions of numerous actors –conservators, curators, art historians, photographers and conservation scientists – have been focusing on the achievement of the restoration. Translating this "doing" into a "making of" for the exhibition implies reconstruction / analytical aggregation steps, which echo mystery investigation : clues, at the beginning appart, converge towards building links and new standpoints presented in the exhibition. |
