description In the study of Zuleika Dobson by Max Beerbohm, excess will be studied from three different perspectives. It will stand first as an oblique process of trial, then as a form of abscess that should be cured, and finally as an access to a higher level of meaning and being. These variations allow heroes and narrator alike to shift their respective approach to otherness, first rejecting, then integrating and finally assimilating it. The paper will also attempt to assess how the novel contributes to a reflexion on dandyism both in general terms and in the particular case of Max Beerbohm.
