Description
Summary:Excavations conducted on the Champ des Crêtes at Vieux (Calvados) in the 19th c. led to the discovery of two vast monumental complexes, long considered as thermal buildings. Comparison of the older documentation with new data from airborne surveys and geophysical prospecting prompts us to reconsider the monumental complex located to the north-east and to interpret it as the forum of this civitas’ administrative center. The resumption of excavations in 2007 allowed to reproduce the overall plan of this forum closed on its short, eastern side by civic buildings. Erected in the beginning of the 2nd c. AD, these buildings underwent important architectural and decorative modifications between the end of the 2nd c. and the early 3rd c. The curia was then equipped with a tiered hemicycle and lavishly decorated.
