Summary: | <p><strong>Foundation:</strong> high blood pressure constitutes the most important medical problem in contemporary medicine, so health promotion plays an important role in its prevention.<br /><strong>Objective</strong>: to describe the knowledge level about arterial hypertension in non-hypertensive adults.<br /><strong>Methods:</strong> an educational intervention study was carried out in the family doctor's office No. 7 of the Ernesto Guevara de la Serna polyclinic, Cienfuegos, from February 2021 to November 2023. The universe consisted of 311 non-hypertensive adult patients and the sample by 90 randomly chosen patients who met the inclusion criteria. The analyzed variables were : age, sex, knowledge about the definition of high blood pressure, its risk factors, knowledge about clinical manifestations, complications and knowledge about prevention measures.<br /><strong>Results:</strong> the 50 - 59 year old group and the female sex predominated, 71.11% of the participants demonstrated inadequate knowledge about the definition of arterial hypertension, before the intervention 87.77% of the sample did not know the clinical manifestations, Regarding the level of knowledge about the complications of high blood pressure in 96.66 % of the sample it was inadequate and 72.2% also had inadequate knowledge about prevention measures. All these parameters were overcome after the educational intervention carried out.<br /><strong>Conclusions:</strong> the greatest percentage of patients had inadequate knowledge on the subject, the educational intervention allowed them to be modified.</p> |
