Description
Summary:This publication outlines the main aspects of Dr. Ivan Andreov Bogorov's vision of bilingual linguistic lexicography. The relevance of the study is determined by the analysis of publications on this author, in which his lexicographic activity is not sufficiently illuminated. It is pointed out that Bogorov's "French-Bulgarian Dictionary" and "Bulgarian-French Dictionary" are serious philological contributions to Bulgarian science. With their function and significance, they are peculiar lexicographical institutions of the last decade of the Bulgarian Renaissance. At that time, they were an invaluable inventory of verbal heritage and concepts, objects, and knowledge that reached people through the bilingual prism of the Bulgarian and French languages. Linguogeographical and cultural history is encoded in the civilizational vocabulary. Their study is linked to the solution of several methodological problems concerning the preparation of a working bibliographical record of these two vocabularies, to the clarification of the boundaries and the potentiality of the phenomenon "dictionary within the dictionary," to the construction of a French-language lexical array as a tertium comparationis as a basis for future reconstruction of the linguogeographical picture of the world coded by Dr. Ivan A. Bogorov in his two capital bilingual dictionaries. A primary analysis of the lexical composition of this French-language tertium comparationis is also made, as the foundational aspects of Dr. Ivan Andreov Bogorov's lexicographical paper on the linguogeographical representation of the Bulgarian Renaissance language picture are outlined.
