description | Arboviruses constitute an important challenge for global public health, because they cause epidemics of great magnitude in terms of incidence and mortality. This review was carried out for delving into the biological control of mosquito species that transmit arboviruses and the alternatives for their control. For this, a bibliographic review of articles, reports, web documents, available in repositories of the Infomed web site and Google Academic, in English and Spanish, published from 2010 to 2023 and articles indexed in databases such as: SciELO, PubMed, Medline and Redalyc. 74 articles were reviewed, of which 30 were related to the topic to be developed. The review presents experiences about biological controllers such as Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis (Bti); B. sphaericus, Wolbachia bacteria, larvivorous fish, the use of nematodes, fungi and the application of the insect sterilization technique. It is concluded that there is a need to expand the knowledge and use of biological controllers, as an alternative to integrated vector control that provides permanent effect, without creating resistance, and is also an economical, sustainable and easily accessible option in prevention. and control of vector-borne diseases. |
