description Beyond specific attributes enabling the Aztec divinities to be identified, there existed a body structure valid for all gods. Their body was divided into several parts and these held a certain number of ornaments. The diversity of these ornaments and the frequency of the body divisions testify to the importance attributed to certain parts of the body. This article sets out to highlight the types of ornaments worn by gods and their associated body parts, in order to understand how this partitioning stems from cultural conceptions underpinning the subject of the human body.
