description This article studies the Master’s thesis in philosophy of the poet Antonia Pozzi (1912-1938), devoted to Flaubert’s literary training. Like all Pozzi’s writings, the text was published posthumously. It was republished in 2013 by Matteo Mario Vecchio under its original title: Flaubert negli anni della sua formazione letteraria (1830-1856). It is a remarkable study not only of Flaubert’s early writings but also of his poetics and theories. Pozzi is the first in Italy to have dealt with Flaubert’s juvenilia, which she analyzes in detail for their literary and philosophical influences as well as their themes and style. Pozzi highlights their intrinsic value and establishes a enlightening connection between these early works and the later masterpieces. We will show the originality of Pozzi’s work which still remains worthy of mention among the major 20th century Flaubertian criticism.
