Description
Summary:Aimed at assimilating the impact of diabetes mellitus in children and in the family life under the perspective of the primary caregiver. Descriptive qualitative research conducted with seven mothers in a center of reference in Crato, CE, Brazil in the months of June and July, 2011. With these major thematic categories: characterization of family caregivers; implications of diabetes mellitus in the child's life under the perspective of the mother; family experience facing diabetes. Behavioral changes in children such as aggressiveness, feelings of denial and fear were assimilated. It was also observed that the care of diabetic children falls back on the mother. Thus, we see the need to implement a multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary and humanized care, aimed at patients with diabetes mellitus and their caregivers, with emphasis on health education.
