description Access to health care for trans childhoods in Argentina is conditioned by controversies and uncertainties. Recognition of self-perceived gender identity is guaranteed as a right. The change of name and sex on identity documents can be made through an administrative procedure, without further requirements than the expression of individual will, even for minors. It also establishes a dignified treatment, which involves being named by your chosen name without a registration change being necessary, nor any body modifications or change of clothing. These stipulations promote a paradigm of depathologization and desjudicialization, but practices that generate situations of discrimination and exclusion persist. The visibility of trans childhoods has been accompanied by the construction of care protocols, intended for health centers, and the multiplication of specialized clinics. In this connection, puberty blockers have become the focus of controversy. Through the analysis of official protocols, reports from organizations, and interviews with health professionals in the city of Mar del Plata, this article discusses the tension between the legitimization of a rhetoric of rights and depathologizing protocols with the survival of stigmatizing and adult-centric practices, in a scenario marked by a structural health deficit.
