| description | In Antananarivo, a major city and the capital of Madagascar, a very poor country, nature in the urban space constitutes an original landscape with a great deal of vegetation in various forms, many lakes and ponds, and the presence of agriculture even in the centre of the agglomeration. After having identified and located the forms of nature in the city, their uses are examined: leisure, sanctification and privacy are the main functions attributed by city dwellers to natural spaces. There is a need and a desire for nature. In its last part, the article studies the representations of nature by public authorities who develop policies for the preservation of urban natural spaces with the aim of changing the negative image of the city. Antananarivo, like other cities in developing countries is impacted by policies of international inspiration founded on sustainable development. |
