Description
Summary:The logical status of the use and the user is ambiguous in design utterances that deals with a reality that does not yet exist. This article proposes a logical construct to understand the specificity of these utterances implied by the design context. It proceeds to a thought experiment comparing statements from sociology and design to understand what distinguishes them. The status of the use and of the user appears to oscillate between genuine reference and undecidability. The use would thus be simulated by speech acts mimicking normal assertions in the manner of fictional speech. But the pragmatics of design also suggests some distinctions from fiction, notably in its aim of reality. Finally, we will outline the links that this analysis has with current practices such as participative design, scale 1, making scenarios, the use of big data or neuroarchitecture.
