Description
Summary:In order to meet the requirements of running over-long, diesel-electric hybrid and power-distributed heavy haul train formations, a multi-mode marshaling was proposed, supporting the diesel-electric coupling and eight-locomotive coupling. Moreover, a formation solution with 40 electric and diesel locomotives coupled in five consists in a wired manner was realized, in coordination with the distributed power (DP) system. In the support of this solution, more heavy haul trains could be operated in the sections without increasing power supply capacity, and the requirements of heavy haul transport with mixed locomotives of different types could be met. The effectiveness of this solution has been verified on an electric locomotive project in South Africa.
