| description | The excavation of the boulevard Dr. Henri-Henrot in Reims, situated along a riverbank in a wetland context, has provided excellently preserved sporo-pollen remains. Archaeological efforts revealed variable periods of clogging or filling of an ancient branch of the Vesle, of its banks, and archaeological structures (basins). Their analysis reveals a period spanning Protohistory, as well as Antiquity and medieval periods. Thus, they offer a diachronic view of the vegetal landscape and anthropic waste produced, some of which correspond to textile activities. Although not all phases of the ancient occupation are represented, the period is nevertheless very well documented, possessing a precise chronology, first spanning the 1st c. AD, followed by the 3rd c. AD. Though waste from human activity is heavily present throughout this period, the understanding of wooded areas also evolves: following the presence of an extremely open landscape at the beginning of the period, the different configurations (riparian forest and oak/beech forest) are subsequently more appreciated, prior to demonstrating a new withdrawal. |
