Summary: | This article explores the concept of trajectory which leads to a new approach of the migratory issues in geography. Through our field studies we look at both invariants and differences between the two major migratory groups of the Caribbean region: the Cubans of Miami and the Haitians of Santo Domingo. The concept of trajectory allows us to analyse migrations from the perspective of the three underlying issues supporting our analysis: space, society and power. The study of these two trajectories emphasizes the importance of the geopolitical framework and the dominant voices in the process of immigrant’s integration. |
