Summary:Background. The institute of constitutional control plays a key role in ensuring the legal protection of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, as it acts as a guarantee of compliance with the principles of the rule of law and the protection of the rights and freedoms of citizens, thereby contributing to the maintenance of stability of the political system. One of the important tasks of constitutional control is to prevent abuse of power. It ensures a balance between the various branches of government, allowing to avoid ex-ceeding authority. This mechanism becomes especially relevant in conditions requiring a prompt response to threats to constitutionalism. The purpose of the work is to analyze the role and significance of the institute of constitutional control in the legal protection of the Constitution of Russia. Materials and methods. The implementation of the set tasks was achieved on the basis of a comprehensive analysis of the institution of constitutional control not only of the modern, but also of the Soviet period, as well as on the basis of a study of foreign experience in the functioning of this institution. The methodological basis was formed by the methods of comparative legal and historical-legal analysis, which made it possible to correlate the features of the models of constitutional control of different histori-cal periods and states. Results. The significance of the institute of constitutional control is studied not only in the legal protection of the Constitution of Russia, but also in the imple-mentation of legal education of the population and raising the level of legal culture. Con-clusions. The development of the institution of constitutional review remains an important issue in both theoretical and practical aspects, especially in the context of the constitutional reforms that have been carried out. In terms of its content, this institution is an important means of ensuring a single normative space in Russia.
