description | Landscape project design, an operational approach to transforming landscapes and/or their representations, has occupied and still occupies a central place in the training of landscape architects in France. Over the last thirty years, new approaches to spatial design have emerged in French schools of landscape: landscape architects have expanded their role from project management; the number of players involved in development projects has multiplied; the range of training courses has diversified; and the number of graduates and teaching staff has increased. In this context, the article thus aims to demonstrate the gradual shift towards education that focuses on landscape spatial design expertise (multiscalar, based on the specific characteristics of the site), as well as on the initial and final phases of the landscape project (from design study to management). It also seeks to shed more light on the educational developments brought about by research activities, along with the renewal of the teaching staff within schools. |
