Description
Summary:This article focuses on the life story of the former FNLA fighter, Maria Henriqueta Miguel Pedro, Joia. Joia escapes stereotypes about the FNLA. Of Kimbundu origin, daughter of assimilated parents, she was born in Luanda and was a high school student. Her biography contributes to think about the FNLA beyond the Single History, that is, a nationalist movement of men of Bakongo ethnic group, with origin in the north of Angola, refugees in the neighboring country Congo, of Baptist religion and with peasant roots. The article argues that ex-combatants and clandestine militancy should be included in the FNLA’s memory and history of the liberation struggle so that this fight is re-signified and belonging to the nation does not exclude women.
