Description
Summary:In Quebec, teaching landscape architecture presents certain singularities. The only training available is provided by programmes offered at Montreal University and the professional graduate programme is subject to accreditation by the Canadian Association of Landscape Architects (in French, Association des architectes paysagistes du Canada, AAPC). At university such a situation is singular since the programme derives not only from the perspective of the teachers but also from that of a professional association. What are these perspectives ? To what extent do they coincide ? This article seeks to address these questions from the angle of training in the larger landscape. After presenting the training workshop of the larger landscape in the under-graduate programme, it describes the factors which led to the creation of the graduate programme, and examines the latter in the light of the requirements for AAPC accreditation. This analysis raises questions which, beyond the scope of the larger landscape, lie at the heart of the landscape architecture profession and the way landscape architecture is taught.
