Summary:Literature is, per se, a resource and didactic material valuable for teaching, learning and acquisition of foreign languages. With regard to the teaching and learning of Spanish as Foreign Language, its presence is becoming more prevalent in the classroom for its versatility to integrate and promote in the classroom with relative ease the acquisition and improvement of all basic skills and development of different competences such as the literary, the linguistic, the communicative, the pragmatic and the cultural; thanks, about all, to its ability to connect literature, language and culture. Thus, from several decades ago, it is have developed new tactics and learning activities that have favoured the inclusion and use of fragments, and literary texts in classrooms of Spanish as Foreign Language. In fact, although this is still pretty discussed and issue of dissertation at meetings, courses and seminars specialized, the number of spanish teachers and researchers that support their integration into the teaching-learning process has increased. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to support the previous approaches with the purpose of, on the one hand, justify the application of literature in the teaching- learning of Spanish as Foreign Language; and, on the other hand, highlight some of the many forms of didactic exploitation of this type of text.
