Summary: | This article is intended to present a perspective which is at the same time diachronic and synchronic of the protection of the beaver in the 1990s. In France, the naturalist movement is one which promotes the preservation of an animal on the verge of extinction based on changing scientific notions but also, in the case of the landscape, on the notion of a natural heritage. During the whole of the 20th century the beaver, either naturally or through its re-introduction, re-colonised many waterways in France and Europe, thus creating once again a certain type of landscape. |
