description The topics of immigration and asylum have always formed a major source of controversy between center-right and center-left parties in Europe. This conflict went to the surface with the massive waves of immigrants fleeing war zones in the Middle East and Africa. In evaluating the conflicting positions from immigration and refugees, this paper employs John Berry’s Theory of Acculturation and its four strategies. The research opts for case study and discourse analysis as research tools to trace the impact of the left-right continuous debate on the acculturation process in Europe. The present study concludes with the idea that the pro-immigration trends proved to be more successful in shifting the discourse to serve their vision compared to their anti-immigration counterparts.
