description Announced in July 2017, the programmed withdrawal of the Adobe Flash Player software, which became effective on 1 January 2021, has compromised the online accessibility of a large panel of historical webdocumentaries put online in the 2000s. These were created using Flash programs or formats and can therefore no longer be consulted on the major current browsers. This announcement obviously did not go unnoticed by the teams of the Institut national de l'Audiovisuel (INA) or the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF) in charge of collecting and preserving the French web in the framework of legal deposit since 2006. Through the case of historical webdocumentaries, this article examines the tensions associated with archiving the web in the face of technological obsolescence, documents the strategies deployed by institutions to best collect a part of the history of the web that is now obsolete, and finally invites us to consider the sustainability of online history mediation devices produced by teaching and research organizations.
