description Kavita Sornavalli is a young writer from Tirunelveli district, Tamil Nadu, India. She is also a journalist and prolific writer. “Posal” is a collection of stories published by her in many magazines since 2008. Kavita Sornavalli questions the myths about femininity that Tamil society has secretly built up over time with her stories unfolding them in the female voice. It is clear that Kavita Sornavalli prioritizes women in her works. This article proposes the hypothesis that Kavitha Sornavalli questions the myths about femininity that have been clandestinely constructed by Tamil society for ages and puts the place of women first. It is based on the ten steps proposed by Dr. T. Vijayalakshmi to define gender space in a society. It goes on with the following ten stages like Physical self-reliance, Economic independence, Self-determination, The right to react, The right to act in public, The right to transcend time and place restrictions, The right to overcome obstacles and tasks, Intellectual ability, Not being addicted to emotions and Recognition by others. If a woman attains these levels, it is clear that she has attained the first position in society. The place of femininity in Kavita Sornavalli's short story “Ammavin Peyar” (Mother's name) has been defined on these parameters.
