| Summary: | Ornithonyssus bacoti, called the tropical rat mite, causes rat mite dermatitis by biting humans. The symptoms of rat mite dermatitis are erythema, papules, and itching. The patient in this study was a 37-year-old man who exhibited symptoms of rat mite dermatitis. He heard rat sounds on the ceiling and captured four mites in the house using scotch tape, which were observed using a microscope. Two of the four mites captured were in good condition, allowing size measurements. A comprehensive diagnosis of rat mite dermatitis was made. The treatment included steroid ointment, oral antihistamines, and rat quarantine. The symptoms eventually disappeared without recurrence. This report describes a case of presumed dermatitis caused by a tropical rat mite, considering the surrounding environment, suspected insect or tick bites, and recurring itching and lesions. |
