Summary:<p>The synthesis of photochromic 3,3-di(<mml:math> <mml:msup> <mml:mn>4</mml:mn> <mml:mo>&#x2032;</mml:mo> </mml:msup> </mml:math>-fluorophenyl)-3H-benzopyrans fused to an indole moiety is described. The structures of photomerocyanines elucidated by NMR spectroscopy and spectrokinetic data (<mml:math> <mml:msub> <mml:mi>&#x03BB;</mml:mi> <mml:mrow> <mml:mi>max</mml:mi><mml:mo>&#x2061;</mml:mo> </mml:mrow> </mml:msub> </mml:math> of colored form, colorability, and rate constant of bleaching) obtained by UV-visible spectroscopy are reported.</p>
