| Summary: | Complex anal fistula is a common disease in colorectal surgery and is mainly treated surgically. Due to factors such as the high location of the lesion, the curvature of the fistula tract and the presence of dead space, recurrence and postoperative complications such as fecal incontinence are prone to occur. The principle of surgical treatment for complex anal fistulas has become to cure the fistula while minimize damage to anal function. Video-assisted anal fistula treatment technology is increasingly popular abroad. This technology, through endoscopic visualization, accurately identifies the internal opening and the path of the fistula tract and removes the diseased tissue without incising the fistula tract. It is a minimally invasive surgical method with the advantages of minimal trauma, less pain, and rapid recovery. However, the treatment is expensive and the equipment requirements are high. Video-assisted anal fistula treatment technology is still in its infancy in China, and thus, there is a lack of extensive related research. This article reviews the relevant studies on the treatment of complex anal fistulas with this technology to guide clinical application. |
