Description
Summary:Muslim places of worship in Southern Italy are characterized by low participation of women. This article examines this absence based, drawing on research that examines the processes of constructing female sociality within multiple social fields. Based on research conducted at two places of worship in the city of Lecce, highlighting a positive relationship on one side between women’s associations and women’s presence, and on the other side, between the composition of migratory flows from Arab or predominantly Muslim countries – mainly male – and the limited presence of families. Women’s participation becomes significant in organizing public events related to the process of community anchoring of migrant groups in urban spaces and in building dialoguing communities.
