description <strong>Background:</strong> during the aging process, biological, psychological changes and in the social role of the individual are generated, conditions that require special care. <br /><strong>Objective:</strong> to identify the current situation of health care offered by the staff of the San Juan Pablo II Daytime Gerontological Center in Azaya-Ibarra. <br /><strong>Methods:</strong> an observational, cross-sectional study was carried out from January to March 2022. We worked with 16 workers from the San Juan Pablo II daytime Gerontological Center in Azaya-Ibarra. The variables studied were: care for the environment of the center, timely satisfaction of the needs of the elderly, training in the care of the elderly, frequency of evaluation of the elderly, support in the recovery process of the elderly, planning of activities aimed at improvement of the physical and mental health of the elderly, training received, planning of activities, presence of professionals in health issues and definition of functions. <br /><strong>Results:</strong> 75 % care about the care of the facilities. 62 % argued that the needs of the elderly are met in a timely manner. 56 % do not have adequate training. More than 50 % expressed that the center's staff does not support the recovery process of the elderly and that activities aimed at the physical and mental health of the elderly are not planned. 56 % reported not being a health professional and 50 % highlighted that the functions in the gerontological center are not clearly defined <br /><strong>Conclusions:</strong> it is necessary to carry out training that contributes to improving the quality of care and attention of the elderly.
