description Faced with different problems raised by the management of outdoor recreation, some protected areas try to establish a participatory management that better involves practitioners and the various stakeholders. Based on a case study realized in the regional natural Park of Chartreuse (France), this article questions the way the ordinary practitioners perceive a participatory device under development and that is intended for them. The study of arguments developed by ordinary practitioners offers a contrasted representation of participatory management. A typology designs the various approaches to conceive public action in this kind of area as well as the role that each citizen agrees to play there. The analysis shows that participatory management comes up against different perceptions of human impacts on natural environment that is sometimes "renaturalized" by practitioners.
