| Summary: | Hepatitis C virus(HCV) infection represents a significant public health concern. In order to contribute to the epidemiological data, the present investigation aimed to examine in the prevalence of antibodies against the HCV, the rates of viremia, and the genotypes of HCV among patients in the capital city of Türkiye. This study was conducted between 1 January 2021 and 31 December 2023 in Sincan Training and Research Hospital. The anti-HCV tests Architect(Abbott, USA) and MAGLUMI(Snibe, China), besides HCV-RNA, were performed using Rotor-Gene Q(Qiagen, Germany). A total of 63226 patients' samples were tested for the presence of antibodies to HCV and for the presence of HCV RNA. HCV genotyping was performed on all viremic patients. In this study, the results were analysed retrospectively in conjunction with demographic data. HCV PCR(Polimerase chain reaction) positive patients were investigated HCV epidemiology. Of the 522 patients who were found to be anti HCV positive, 267 were patients admitted from prison. The study revealed that a prevalence of 0.8%(n:239) for anti-HCV positivity and a viremia prevalence(0.4%). HCV GT3(27.9%) was found to be the most common genotype, and following by GT1(26.2%), GT2(7%) and GT4(4.1%). The genotypes tested revealed that subtype 1b was present in 36.5% of GT1 patients and subtype 1a was present in 33.3%. HCV antibodies, viremia prevalence, viremia rate, genotype distribution are given in tables 1 and 2. We believe that our study will contribute to the elimination programs of HCV, which is an important public health problem, and to the epidemiological data in our region. |
