Summary: | This article explains a cooperative action-research process that was conducted in a public hospital. The research explores how the professionals in the hospital deal with the permanent crisis in their institution. The research focused on studying the way the professionals’ aggression towards their institution is structured around the elaboration of aggression. The researchers collected data through individual interviews and work groups, and identified a form of aggressiveness that the professionals exhibit towards their institution, which they call the "fantasy of the evil institution." The study suggests that this aggressiveness is due to the guilt felt by care professionals when their work is impeded by organizational constraints. The authors hypothesize that this type of aggressiveness could be a sign of an anti-depressive capacity and could represent a second chance given by the professionals to an institution that they are strongly committed to, unlike violence. The researchers conclude that managerial staff at all levels should receive advanced training in group processes to mitigate the effects of the fantasy of the evil institution. |
