Description
Summary:The newspaper photo archive held today by the national museum of the Resistance (musée de la Résistance nationale, Champigny-sur-Marne, Val-de-Marne) is extraordinary in terms of its importance and the complexity of the history of how it came into existence. To analyse it, ensure its conservation and make it available to researchers, a large-scale project had to be set up. The treatment of the collection raised issues of a scientific nature (conservation and preventive conservation, analysis, intellectual cataloguing with accepted standards and instruments for archival and museum description), of an information technology nature (documentary tools for treating the archives, methods of digitisation, storage of the data generated), of legal, cultural and educational natures (promotion and display) and, finally, of financial and human natures (internal treatment or recourse to a service provider). This article presents the way the collection was treated and examines the questions which led to the methodological choices made, in collaboration with the archive service of the Seine-Saint-Denis department.
