description | The covid-19 crisis has made visible the place of expertise within decision-making bodies. The interconnected nature of different phenomena be they health, social, economic, psychological or organizational paved the way for interdisciplinary collaborations. This article argues that the recognition of uncertainty is a necessary precondition for interdisciplinary dialogue to succeed. However, this precondition is regularly lacking among mainstream economists who struggle to overcome their assumptions regarding the substitution of risk for uncertainty. Taking the case of Switzerland and its « Swiss National covid-19 Science Task Force », we show that the cost-benefit analysis induced by the predominance of standard economic reasoning limits the Task Force’s attempt to engage with interdisciplinarity. Finally, we make the hypothesis that the inclusion of heterodox economics that recognizes the uncertainty of the future could have initiated such an interdisciplinary dialogue. |
