| description | <p><strong>Foundation</strong>: Seropositivity to the human immunodeficiency virus currently represents a serious health problem, due to its scope and global significance. In Cuba, the provincial capitals register higher incidence rates compared to the rest of the municipalities.<br /><strong>Objective</strong>: to epidemiologically characterize the seropositive cases to the human immunodeficiency virus.<br /><strong>Methods</strong>: a descriptive and retrospective study was carried out in the Cienfuegos municipality, between 2017 and 2021. The universe of 134 patients. The analyzed variables were: age, sex, level of education, sexual orientation, health areas and research group. For the analysis of the information, summary measures for quantitative variables (percentages and rates) were used.<br /><strong>Results</strong>: health areas III and VI had the highest rates. The age group of 25-34 years predominated, and the male sex represented 79.9% of the total. According to sexual orientation, homosexuals occupied 58.2%, and 32.1% belonged to the research group captured.<br /><strong>Conclusions</strong>: seropositive cases to the human immunodeficiency virus decreased significantly in the last five years, where patients of young adulthood were the most affected, as well as men who have sex with other men.</p> |
