description | This article focuses on an extraordinary encounter: that between Giacomo, a Spanish bibliomaniac bookseller, and a book, a Latin Bible with Greek commentaries, the first incunabula of the Bible printed in Spain. This meeting already shows the precocious talent of a very young Flaubert who spreads, with real skill, the mania of Giacomo and the progression of his devouring passion until the tragic fall at the end of the story. The Italian translations of the text, while keeping the same meaning of the original, show significant variations, especially in terms of rhythm. Based on translatological studies such as those of Josiane Podeur and Antoine Berman and on the prosodic reflections of Meschonnic, we will highlight the variations respect to the original text(s) which sometimes prevent the original message from being faithfully transmitted. |
