Description
Summary:Algerian cities are experiencing rapid urbanisation, an often anarchic development and a chaotic consumption of agricultural land. Urban sprawl is a form of urbanisation that has become widespread in Algerian cities. With its residential and economic appeal, the city of Skikda is experiencing a strong demographic dynamic, to the point of being faced today with first order land issues. Given these observations, we wonder if we can control urban sprawl and protect periurban agricultural areas. The main objective of this study is to provide a better understanding of the issues and challenges of periurban farmland management based on the study of the Skikda conurbation and adjacent agricultural areas.
