| description | Building Information Model / Modeling / Management (BIM) captures many expectations and fears in the architectural field. It is sometimes associated with the death of the "artisanal operation" of architecture firms, or the decline of the architect's missions in architectural projects. BIM, however, is also seen as an opportunity to consolidate the architect's role within project management teams. Will BIM transform the architectural sector, the organization of architecture firms and the definition of the architectural profession? The authors propose to address these questions using two main approaches. The first is historical and consists of studying the past trajectories of the architectural profession, and the second concerns computer-aided design tools. This latter approach is quantitative: the authors report on a questionnaire survey that allowed them to identify trends in the appropriation of BIM by architects. The combination of these two approaches makes it possible to sketch a prospective analysis of interactions between BIM diffusion and the future of the architectural profession and architecture firms. |
