Summary: | The thesis highlights an accelerating climate effect on inter-regional migration in Senegal. Climate change, especially when it is slow-onset climate events, is not generally enough, on its own, to « produce » human migrations. It interacts with contextual factors of a socio-economic, cultural, demographic, politico-institutional, environmental… order in the migratory processes by exacerbating the initial vulnerability of the populations. To this end, policies should focus both on (i) development issues (poverty and inequality) by acting on the environment and populations respectively in a coherent and extensive manner; but also, (ii) climate economics by reducing physical and climatic vulnerability through mitigation and adaptation policies to face climate change. |
