Summary: | Spondyloarthritis is an inflammatory disorder of the axial skeleton, while inflammatory myositis is an inflammatory disease affecting the striated muscles. There is no usual association of spondyloarthritis and inflammatory myositis. A 35-year-old female patient presented with proximal muscle weakness and lower back pain with a history of knee synovitis and was diagnosed to have axial spondyloarthritis with inflammatory myositis. Her radiological studies showed sacroiliitis with inflammatory edema in the thigh muscle, with laboratory investigations showing elevated levels of creatine phosphokinase and inflammatory markers and positive human leukocyte antigen B27. She responded well to treatment (prednisolone, methotrexate, analgesic, and supportive medicines) with normalization of laboratory parameters and improved clinically. |
