Summary:Invention and interpretation: drinking songs and shamanic songs among the Suruí of Rondônia. This article compares the rhetorical techniques of two types of ritual songs among the Suruí of Rondônia: beer festival songs and shamanic songs, with regard to their specific ways of differentiating ritual language and enunciation from ordinary discourse. These rhetorical techniques echo the sociological statuses of great men and shamans among this people.
