Summary:During his first visit to Martinique and Guadeloupe, President SARKOZY set the course for a new pragmatic policy, intended to move the lines of the insular public debate. This policy built on on-going local evolutions since the end of the 1990s, is aimed at: a) crafting responsive public policies in order to meet the peculiarities of every single Overseas territories; b) adapting local governance to the challenge of a sustainable development; c) developing the assets of the Overseas territories in their regional environment.
